Lamington National Park is known for its natural beauty, rainforests, birdlife, ancient trees, waterfalls, walking tracks and mountain views. Green Mountains, Lamington National Park, in the hinterland of the Gold Coast and part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to its beautiful natural surroundings. The park is part of the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance in the conservation of several species of threatened birds.

The park is covered by more than 150 km of clearly marked walks that were constructed during the Great Depression. Pick up the latest brochure from the information centre and enjoy walking tracks, leading to creeks and lookouts. Some are short and others are steep and take up to seven hours to complete. The well maintained and signed Border Track, follows the border between New South Wales and Queensland along the top of the McPherson Range. This track links Binna Burra to the O'Reilly's guesthouse at Green Mountains, a distance of some 23 kilometres which can be completed one way in a day or in 7 to 8 hours.

In the picnic area, take photos of crimson rosellas. On the Python walk, listen for the masked mountain frog’s popping call. The regent bowerbird, rufous scrub-bird and Antarctic beech tree found here are species that have survived since prehistoric times. Enjoy Australia’s first tree top walkway; 160 metres in length and made up of a series of nine suspension bridges, reaching up to 16 metres, above the rainforest floor, found near O’Reilly’s Plateau and the charming guesthouse.

The approach to Lamington National Park is located 36 kilometres south of Canungra. Canungra Tourist Information Centre is also a starting point for an enjoyable morning’s activity with Hot Air Balloon Gold Coast where you can see a completely different view of Lamington from the air.
