Witches Falls Winery is an impressive Queensland winery located in the Gold Coast hinterland region, just one hour from Brisbane and approximately 40 minutes from Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. The winery is dedicated to quality winemaking through attention to detail, utilising the most appropriate technology and methods available, using the best available resources and attentive winemaking practices so as to create good varietal wines. Witches Falls Winery is a small, highly regarded 200 tonne winery who sources premium grapes from the Granite Belt to produce a select range of quality handmade Queensland wines.
The quality of their wine is fantastic and they have the awards to prove it. They are not a large commercial operation and therefore offer a very friendly and informal atmosphere. Visit to take a cellar door tour of the winery and samplings of the various vintages by Jon, the owner and master vintner. Witches Falls Winery was established in 2004 by Jon and Kim Heslop. Jon has over 12 years experience in the wine industry and has made wine in the Barossa Valley, Hunter Valley and in 2008 a stint at Domaine Chantel Lescure in Burgundy. For those doubters about Queensland wine, give this a go. A trip to the cellar door and the surrounding area is a great day out and some very tidy wines await you. A membership club is also available offering significant discounts.
When you plan for a day out to visit this exciting winery, book your morning tour with Hot Air Balloon Gold Coast for another great experience to admire the stunning views of the hinterland from a peacefully floating balloon. Because the ballooning tour starts from and ends at Canungra Tourist Information Centre, you can easily drive to Witches Falls Winery afterwards to enjoy their wine. Your ballooning tour also includes champagne breakfast at O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyard!
There are three tiers in the Witches Falls wine range. The first is the Granite belt range which consists of a Fiano, Verdello, Sauvignon Bland, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Following this there is the Wild Ferment Range which comprises of Viognier, Chardonnay, Fiano, Grenache and Pinot Noir. The flagship wines are the Prophecy range which are rich complex and will benefit for years of careful cellaring. Jon's deep interest in experimenting with progressive vinification methods in order to achieve exceptional and interesting results shows throughout this winery. You only have to spend some time with the man to notice the level of commitment he has to doing things properly. This is one of the main reasons as to why this winery has quickly gained its solid reputation as one of Queensland’s major players when it comes to wine. This is remarkable when one considers the cellar door only opened its doors in August 2004.
The winery exports to the UK, Malaysia and China. A must visit on your holidays, or when you are in the Gold Coast area next.
