This is a great thing to do if you have a spare day in Cairns. We ordered the option that included transfers from the Shangri La hotel, thirty-minute balloon flight and the train back to Freshwater station from Kuranda. The balloon flight was magnificent and we were lucky enough to see part of the sunrise over the mountains. We were then dropped to the Kuranda village which is full of lots of little shops, cafes etc. Around 1:30 pm we walked down to the historic train station and found our carriage. The train departed right on the dot of 2 pm. The one and a half hour train journey through lovely scenery were fascinating. At Freshwater station, we then were bussed back to our hotel. Well worth it!
