Chasing Clouds and Creating Opportunities over the Atherton Tablelands with Hervey Bay Videography
As the early morning light stretched across Tropical North Queensland, the Atherton Tablelands served up something extraordinary — a moody, cinematic sky of soft blues threading through sweeping clouds, with mist clinging to the distant ranges and the earth below luminous from recent rains. Into this living landscape, we welcomed Brendan, the adventurous eye behind Hervey Bay Videography, to fly with Hot Air Balloon Cairns and capture it all.
A Creative Partnership — Hervey Bay Videography
Brendan is the creative force behind Hervey Bay Videography, a platform dedicated to cinematic storytelling through travel and adventure content. With a devoted following across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, he specialises in capturing high-energy, visually immersive experiences — the kind that make you feel like you're right there in the frame. His visit to Tropical North Queensland was the perfect occasion to point his camera skyward, and we were more than happy to give him something worth filming.
The Morning of the Flight
Long before the rest of the world had stirred, Brendan was on his way to the Atherton Tablelands launch site. The pre-dawn air carries a particular kind of stillness up here — cool and clean, the darkness beginning to soften at its edges. On arrival, the crew was already at work, and the enormous balloon envelope was laid out across the dewy grass, waiting to be breathed into life.
Watching the inflation is a spectacle in itself. The burners ignite with a deep, resonant roar, pouring jets of flame into the cavernous fabric above, and within minutes the balloon swells upright into the dim sky — a vivid golden presence against the blue-grey dawn. After the safety briefing, Brendan climbed aboard, Insta360 camera at the ready, and the basket gently left the earth behind.
"The contrast of our iconic golden balloon against the dramatic morning sky made for a visual feast." — Brendan, Hervey Bay Videography
Floating Through a Living Postcard
From altitude, the Atherton Tablelands reveals itself as something close to a painting — vast patchworks of agricultural land stitched together in deep greens and ochres, waking towns nestled into folds of the landscape, and the distant ranges blurred to a soft blue by the morning haze. Recent rainfall had intensified every shade of green imaginable, and the dramatic cloud formations gave the sky a textured, almost theatrical quality.
Brendan made the most of every angle, capturing the flight from the basket's edge with his 360-degree camera — the kind of footage that places the viewer right inside the experience. Drifting silently between the burner's occasional roar, the balloon moved with the morning air currents in that unhurried, weightless way that is impossible to replicate anywhere else.
Back on the Ground
The adventure doesn't end at landing. Once the basket touched down and the burners fell quiet, the crew set to work deflating the balloon — and our guests got to experience one of the more unique post-flight traditions: stepping inside the enormous, brightly coloured envelope as it settles to the ground. Surrounded by swathes of warm yellow and orange fabric, light filtering through the rippling silk, the smiles said everything.
Brendan captured this moment too — and the resulting content across his channels is well worth a look. You can see his full highlights from the day via his Instagram Reel, his TikTok highlights, and a Facebook feature on Hervey Bay Videography.
Meet Brendan
Away from the camera, Brendan is a man who thrives on movement, physicality, and the pursuit of new experiences. His favourite places to visit? Anywhere and everywhere — a philosophy that has taken him from Hervey Bay to the Atherton Tablelands and everywhere in between. Whether he's airborne in a hot air balloon, carving water on a jet ski, navigating trails on an ATV, or getting behind the controls of something altogether more unexpected (a bulldozer, for instance), the common thread is an appetite for the extraordinary.
His commitment to physical wellbeing runs deep — you'll find him at the gym, in the ocean freediving, in the ring training Muay Thai, or on the court playing pickleball. But perhaps what defines Brendan most is his personal philosophy: he believes in creating his own path, and in the quiet power of simply having the courage to ask. It's a mindset that has opened more than a few remarkable doors — including, as it happens, the door to our balloon basket.
When the day finally winds down, he unwinds the way he does most things — with a little speed and a lot of style, cruising his local streets on his latest obsession: e-bikes and e-scooters.

A sincere thank you to Brendan for bringing his energy, his eye, and his Insta360 to our early morning flight over the Atherton Tablelands. It was a privilege to share that dramatic, cloud-threaded sky with someone who truly knows how to honour it through a lens. We hope the footage lives as long as the memory.
