Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary - a unique Gold Coast Theme Park
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary - Gold Coast
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast has long been one of the most popular attractions in south-east Queensland, and it isn't hard to see why. With great prices on tickets for a huge array of things to do, it offers one of the best value days out for families and individuals alike.
Get close to more than 1,400 native Australian animals on display in natural bushland and rainforest settings. You can cuddle a koala, experience the wild Lorikeet Feeding, Free-flight Bird Show and Kangaroo Feeding. Aboriginal and Islander didgeridoo and dance performances take place in daily shows, plus much more - including the Green Challenge Adventure Parc (an exhilarating 65-challenge tree-tops ropes course), Wild Island (the fun-filled outdoor adventure playground and interactive science activity zone), and the Wildlife Hospital precinct.
🎈 Combine with a Morning Balloon Ride
You can combine your visit to this amazing wildlife sanctuary with a morning balloon ride with Hot Air Balloon Gold Coast. Ballooning tours operate daily - you get picked up from your accommodation in Main Beach, Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach, then transferred to the launch site in the Gold Coast Hinterland for a spectacular balloon flight. After a fun pack-up of the balloon, your coach departs to O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyard for a delicious breakfast. You'll be dropped back to your accommodation before 11am - leaving plenty of time to head to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary!
🦜 About the Sanctuary
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is world renowned for its feeding of huge flocks of free-flying wild Rainbow Lorikeets, which flock to the sanctuary twice daily to be fed by visitors. The sanctuary was originally opened as the Currumbin Bird Sanctuary in 1947 as a scheme to stop the local lorikeet population destroying nearby flower plantations.
Today it houses one of the largest collections of Australian native species in the world. Exhibits include Tasmanian Devils, a reptile house, and the largest walk-through aviary in the southern hemisphere. A miniature railway has been operating on site since 1964.
