Queensland Museum, Brisbane

Queensland Museum is the state museum of Queensland, located at the heart of Brisbane's cultural precinct alongside the State Library of Queensland, the Queensland Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Queensland Museum connects visitors to Queensland, its people and their stories of the past, present and future - with something for everyone in the family, it's a great way to spend several hours on your holiday.

Also located at the Museum, SparkLab, Sciencentre offers an exciting, hands-on interactive STEM space, ideal for curious minds aged 6 to 13. General admission to Queensland Museum is free except for special temporary exhibitions. SparkLab has an entry fee of $15.50 per adult (subject to change), with a family pass also available. If you want to put all that science into practice, why not take a ride on the Brisbane River or take a flight with Hot Air Balloon Brisbane and see a practical, everyday application of the principle that warmer air rises in cooler air? Hot air is lighter than cool air because it has less mass per unit of volume - see why hot air balloons are so huge, and just how many cubic metres of hot air it takes to lift one, on the Scenic Rim, Brisbane's hinterland.

Queensland Museum is an innovative, accessible museum of science, the environment and the human experience, of international standing. Forget any idea of dusty relics in dimly lit display cases - there's plenty here for all ages. Walk under a whale, discover dinosaurs, and see the state's marine reptiles and much more. Popular exhibitions include travelling shows from Australia and around the world, alongside changing exhibitions revealing the story of Queensland - including its prehistoric past, the cultures of Queensland's Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders, and the state's unique biodiversity. This fascinating museum of cultural history and science tells the changing story of Queensland, and is also a world-class research facility in biodiversity, geoscience and cultural history.
