Hot air ballooning and going to the Great Barrier Reef has long been on my agenda, so delighted to get the chance to finally experience both and on the same day too! A lovely early sunrise balloon flight in the Atherton Tablelands. I am still so surprised by the size of the basket and how many can fit onto one balloon. Back to Cairns I was dropped off at the boat terminal and ventured to the GBR with Great Adventures. Although it was peak season and there were people everywhere I still really enjoyed being on the outer reef and saw many fish and a shark as well.

I recently did hot air ballooning and then a trip to the Norman Reef pontoon. I am glad I did both as the timing worked out really well and I made the most of my day in Cairns. Hot Air hosted a great morning and the balloon flight was fantastic and the staff were very professional. The boat trip out with Great adventures, while a little rough on the way out, was everything I was hoping for on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The day included all of my transfers from the YHA in Cairns, a buffet lunch and snorkeling gear as well. Very well organised and I highly recommend both companies.

I am obsessed with hot air ballooning and was so happy I got to try it when I visited Cairns. I also did a trip to the Great barrier reef with Great adventures which was something I have always wanted to do. The snorkelling was nice, make sure you take some travel calm before you go out if you get seasick.

Just returned from our day out hot air ballooning and going to the great barrier reef. My family were very impressed by the level of service in Cairns so far. Everyone is so helpful and accommodating. Trip of a lifetime.

Who would have thought you could go hot air ballooning in far north Queensland! Wow the views were amazing. We had done this before in Turkey and this was just as great as the first time. After the balloon flight we were dropped off to the big boat to visit the Barrier reef for a day of snorkeling. It took a bit longer than I expected to get out there but was worth it to see all the fish, and we found Nemo!
